400 take part in Killarney Adventure Race

A perfect Spring Day saw over 400 competitors Competing in the Killarney Adventure Race, as part of the  St Patrick’s Festival, Killarney. The Athletes cycled through the most scenic ancient paths of Killarney National Park, through The Famous Black Valley, where they ran a section of The Kerry Way, along Cummenduff Glen, through O’Sullivan’s Farm, the last house in the Valley. Then a tough incline onto The MacGillycuddy Reek’s to Curraghmore Lake, before turning back to complete their trail run transition at Casey’s Farm yard, a final bike ride to the Eagle’s Nest, where the adventurer’s kayaked the Long Range River before heading back to the finishing line at the Gleneagle Hotel, Killarney. The race included a  55Km Expert challenge and a 33Km race of strength and great fun.

It was Cork’s Eric Wolfe who powered through the landscape winning the overall race in an incredible time of 02:36:49, not to be out done, 3 minutes behind elite athlete Eric was and another Cork Man, Aidan O’Gorman, in an incredible time of 02:39:10, Third home was Aidan Kearney from County Meath in a time of 02:40:25, first lady home was Ellen Vitting, County Meath in a time of 03:03:21

Race organiser, Oliver Kirwan from Elite Event management said ‘ Adventure times were broken, magnificent racing without the support of the residents in the Black valley, Killarney National park, the Gleneagle Hotel and all the volunteers and team members, the event would not be such a success, the atmosphere, and perfect weather conditions for the athletes and hard working organisers added to the great success of the Day, Looking forwarding to another Great Day of Adventure on Saturday October 3rd, 2015”

Third Place: Alan Kearney County Meath: 02:40:25

Fourth Place:Peter Walsh, County Cork:02:42:39

Fifth Place: Neil Murphy, County Kerry: 02:50:24

Sixth Place: Harold Clifton ,County Kerry:02:50:27

Second Place: Fiona O’Riordon, Dublin:03:12:10
