DEBRA Ireland is delighted to announce the date of the fourth Wicklow Mountains Half Marathon on the 11th March 2012. This is a fantastic event not to be missed, the route will take you through beautiful valleys and along remote tracks high in the mountains. The views stretch along the East Coast over the Irish Sea and deep into Irelands largest upland area- the Wicklow Mountains with amazing views of the Glendalough Valley.
The route is 21km with approx 2km on road. A 10km route has also been added for 2012.
Both routes are available at www.debraireland.org. Running and walking category available.
In the past three years over €60,000 has been raised for Irish charity DEBRA Ireland through the Wicklow Mountains Half Marathon. DEBRA Ireland was set up by parents who have children born with an extremely painful skin condition known as epidermolysis bullosa (EB). To put it simply children born with the condition, have skin internally and externally that is as delicate and fragile as the wings of a butterfly, and just as easily damaged. The condition is unrelenting and with time the effects it has on those living with it is unimaginable.
For a better insight into EB please take a look at the following short link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vwnlyjn_Fis.
