Discover Ireland’s Peaks with Land Rover and the Irish Red Cross

Sunrise Summit ChallengeLand Rover has joined forces with the Irish Red Cross for Ireland’s brand new charity adventure the Sunrise Summit Challenge. Simultaneously taking place at ten mountain locations around Ireland, challenge participants will hike through the early morning darkness of April 14th, reaching the mountain summits in time to witness the sunrise over Ireland.

Speaking ahead of the Sunrise Summit Challenge, Melanie McCourt, Marketing Manager, Land Rover Ireland, said, “As a longstanding global partner of the Red Cross, Land Rover is proud to sponsor the Sunrise Summit Challenge.  Ireland has some of the most stunning mountain ranges in Europe and this event offers an opportunity to discover them in a way that is unique, fun and exhilarating.”

What better way to discover Ireland than by watching the sunrise from Ireland’s highest peaks.”

The ten Sunrise Summit Challenge mountains, in counties Kerry, Wicklow, Tipperary, Mayo, Galway, Donegal, Waterford and Down, offer a range of exciting route types, suitable for every level of experience. From ambling treks through beautiful woodland to more challenging ascents of glacial corries and spectacular arêtes this challenge will appeal to everyone from seasoned adventurers to Sunday hikers. Each group will be guided by specially trained Irish Red Cross Mountain Guides, getting them safely through the darkness and up to the mountain peaks.

The Sunrise Summit Challenge offers a unique opportunity to take part in an unforgettable charity mountain adventure whilst also raising funds for the Irish Red Cross’ humanitarian work in Ireland and around the world.

Through its network of trained volunteers, the Irish Red Cross works in communities throughout Ireland, responding to emergencies such as during the Cork floods and severe snow, when the Irish Red Cross Land Rover fleet allowed volunteers to reach those stranded in their homes, and also with its health and social care services and mountain and lake search and rescue teams.  As part of the largest humanitarian organisation in the world, the international Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, the charity also works internationally;  supporting families affected by the ongoing conflict in Syria, left homeless by Hurricane Sandy and left hungry by the food crisis in Niger
