Annascaul Walking Festival

The Annascaul walking festival is being held by Annascaul Walks, a walking club based on the Dingle Peninsula. The walking festival will take place over the Halloween bank-holiday weekend from Friday 28th October to Monday 31st October. The festival opens with a night walk of Meelin Hill on Friday. On Saturday choose from Mount Brandon (tough), Macha na Bo (moderate) or the Tom Crean Trail (easy). Sunday offers the Loch a’Duin circuit (difficult), Connor Pass to Coumduff Lake (moderate) and the Inch Beach Loop (easy). On Monday, the final day of the festival, there will be a climb to the promintory fort at Cagerconree (tough) or the Stage Road Walk (moderate).

Full Itineary is as follows:

Friday 28th October 2011
Night walk on Meelin Hill. Starting 7.30pm.
Begin Halloween wekend with a torchlight walk along Melin Ridge with eerie views of sea and valley. A festival highlight to be sure.
Grade: Easy (2 hours).
Start: 7.30 pm

Saturday 29th October 2011.
“A” Walk, Mount Brandon.
The Pinnacle of West Kerry. A truly spectacular day’s walking.
Grade: Tough (5 hours)
Start: 9am

“B” Walk, Macha na Bo.
Follow the footprints of our forefathers and travel the well trodden mountain path linking Annascaul to Cloghane.
Grade: Moderate (3 hours)
Start: 9am

“C” Walk, Tom Crean Trail.
Walk/revisit places of importance in the life of Tom, our famous Antartic explorer.
Grade: Easy, road walk (3 hours)
Start: 10am

Sunday 30th October 2011.
“A” Walk, Loch a’Duin circuit.
A challenging climb rewarded by views of the haunting beauty of the fortified lake at loch a ‘Duin.
Grade: Difficult (5 hours)
Start: 9am

“B” Walk, Connor Pass to Coumduff Lake. (Annascaul Lake)
Enjoy a walk along the Slieve Mish ridge with great views of the valleys and sea.
Grade: Moderate (5 hours)
Start: 9:30am

“C” Walk, Inch Beach Loop.
If you have’nt walked the full 8 miles, 12 km of Inch Beach, this is your chance.
Grade: Easy (3 hours)
Start: 10am

Monday 31st October 2011.
“A” Walk, Caherconree.
A great climb to the promintory fort at Caherconree.
Grade: Tough (3 hours)
Start: 10am

“B” Walk. The Stage.
The Stage road walk. A good road walk to finish the weekend with views of Inch and Annascaul Valley.
Grade: Moderate (3 hours)
Start: 10am
