Former International Soccer Star Takes On Westport Sea2Summit

Westport Sea2Summit-1Westport Sea2Summit is back for its 5th year and has evolved and grown to become Ireland’s Largest Adventure Race. Taking place on the 8th November up to 1,700 competitors will be joined by Former Irish International Soccer Star Kevin Kilbane as he takes on the Supreme Event (56km) in aid of the John Giles Foundation & Down Syndrome Ireland. Last year over €10,000 was raised for LARCC.

Starting at the Castlecourt Hotel in the heart of Westport Town, the race incorporates a mix of road running, cycling & a hike up the famous Croagh Patrick. Competitors have the choice of the Spirit Event (30km) or the Supreme Event (56km). For those who would like to take part as a team the Supreme Relay Event (56km) is the perfect challenge.

Having completed the London Marathon in 2013, Westport Sea2Summit is an even bigger challenge for Kevin Kilbane but one that he is looking forward to. “It’s a completely new challenge for me, especially the 32k cycle but I’m really focused on the event and have received great encouragement from the John Giles Foundation & Down Syndrome Ireland”

This years charity partners are two very worthy charities. The John Giles Foundation was established to use the power of football to build community cohesion. Supplying schools, football clubs & community organisations with funds to develop projects at grassroot level, the foundation has established itself as an integral part of the Irish football community.

Down Syndrome Ireland is a national voluntary organisation supporting people with Down Syndrome and their families. The money raised will provide much needed funds for the development of Down Syndrome Ireland’s nationwide support services.

Pat Clarke, Chief Executive of Down Syndrome Ireland said: “We are excited to be involved in such a fantastic adventure race, we look forward to cheering everyone on and we will be at the finish line to congratulate everyone “.

With Johnny Giles starting this years Westport Sea2Summit Race and Kevin Kilbane taking part, this years event promises to be a great sporting & social occasion. Book your place for the Last Adventure Race of the Season or follow sea2summit on Facebook & Twitter for all our updates.
