Foxford Walking Festival proves an outstanding success

The Foxford Walking Festival which took place on the 21st to 23rd of October was an outstanding success with about 200 walkers taking part in the six guided walks over the weekend. Despite the inclement weather conditions, spirits were high and walkers enjoyed treks across the Ox Mountains, Larganmore, and in the Pontoon and Drummin Woods areas. The feedback received from walkers has been excellent and most are eagerly looking forward to next years event which is scheduled for 22nd and 23rd of September 2012.

The Foxford Ramblers Walking Club who hosted the festival are delighted with the turnout for this, their first such event.
The Ramblers would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all those who participated in the walks and also the volunteers who helped make the event such a success, especially the walk leaders, assistant leaders, Mayo Civil Defence, Foxford Branch Irish Red Cross, Foxford RSS Scheme, and the manager and staff of Foxford Sports and Leisure Centre for all the tea, coffee and scones!

The event was recorded by Mayo TV and is being aired on Thursday 27th October at 9pm on Sky channel 201 and will be repeated on Monday31st October at 10pm on that channel.

Great stuff. Well done to all involved in the organisation. I really enjoyed the Cunnagher walk on Sunday, even though the weather was a bit damp to put it mildly everyone’s spirits were high and the scenery breathtaking.
