We spoke to the people at Gaelforce Events about what they have lined up for 2013. They have a number of great events in store for the year and we’ve taken a look ahead at some of them.
1. April 6th: Bray 10km Trail Blazer
This trail running event will take you from Greystones to Bray via the Cliff Trail. The race starts at the far end of Greystones beach and leads along the shore line to the cliff where it follows the train lines back to Bray taking in the stunning and dramatic views of along the steep cliffs of the Irish sea.
The race is approximately 10km in length finishing just off the promenade at Bray.
2. May 11th: Connemara Adventure Challenge
This race will take the format of having 3 disciplines; trail/mountain running (walking and jogging also accepted!), Kayaking and cycling. The race is approximately 31km in total and is open to racers of all levels.
The challenge exhibits all that Connemara has to offer with spectacular scenery and a great course, all topped off with a free after-race party!
3. June 29th: Gaelforce North
Gaelforce North will see racers discover some amazing parts of Donegal including Glenveagh National Park, Coillte Forest Tracks and the spectacular Mount Errigal. There are 2 distances available and both involve cycling, running/hill running and a kayak.
The full course is 64km with the Sprint course is 42km in distance.
4. August 17th: Gaelforce West
Gaelforce West is the largest one day adventure race of its kind in the world. It is a multi-sport adventure race involving cycling, running, hiking and kayaking. The course of approximately 67km stretches from the stunning Glassilaun beach to Westport. En route there are some significant obstacles to cross, including Killary Harbour and the famous holy mountain of Croagh Patrick.
It will test you both physically and mentally but the elation you will feel at the end when you cross the finish line will make it all worth it!
5. October 12th: The Great Fjord Swim
This event challenges you to swim Ireland’s only fjord in the deep, clean waters of the Atlantic ocean. Choose from 2 distances – 750m or 2km. Both distances involve a boat trip to start.
The Fjord Swim promises to be a truly unique event and should be an experience to rival none. This area of outstanding beauty provides the backdrop, the warm waters of the Atlantic ocean provide the mode of transport and you will provide the power!
6. November 2nd: Turf Guy
Turf Guy is a bog-crawling, wall-leaping, rope-swinging, bone chilling and extremely fun event. The race will be a mental and physical challenge but will also be lots of fun. The course is approximately 10km long.
Turf guys and girls conquer extreme obstacles, push their limits and celebrate with an epic fancy dress party, music and good old Irish craic!
