The Irish Mountain Running Association got their year off to a start yesterday at Ticknock following the postponment of the Howth race scheduled for earlier in the month due to the adverse weather conditions. The race was the first of the Winter League and consisted of 10.2km crossing Three-Rock and rounding Fairy Castle.
In tough conditions which included some residual traces of snow, the race was won by Paul O’ Connell of the Sportsworld club in a time of 47:32 with Eoin Brady of the UCD club finishing second in a time of 48:40. Ben Mooney took third place a further 26 seconds back.
The ladies winner was Catherine Devitt who crossed the finishing line in a time of 56:52 with Karen Doyle following closely in second just 11 seonds back. Rosalind Hussey took third place with a time of 58:06.
James Alexander was the male winner on the short course coming in at 43:10 while Ann O’ Callaghan crossed the line in 59:02 to win the ladies short race. The winning team were UCD with 16 points.
