NiRunning announce details of annual trail race

Trail Race poster April

The popular running website, NiRunning ( this week announced that the 2nd annual running of their 5 mile Trail Race in Ballyboley Forest, just outside Larne.

In early 2014, despite heavy overnight snow and ice, which enforced a complete change of course and Race HQ on the morning of the event, the race attracted over one hundred competitors and proved popular with participants.

The Race HQ (including Start/Finish and Registration) will be at the Killylane Reservoir side of Ballyboley Forest with access and (limited) parking available via the Water Service entrance, off the Shanes Hill Road between Larne and Ballymena (close to the Ballyboley Inn Public House).

After having had to make last minute changes because of the snow and ice in 2014, NiRunning’s Ryan Maxwell is keen to see what competitors think about the originally set course.  He explained, “In 2014, we put a lot of effort into the setting up and marking of a course that we felt would prove interesting and challenging, but at the same time fast.

We were therefore disappointed at having to completely change the course and even the Race HQ on race day. The one plus side of having the race a little later in the year is that the likelihood of snow is a lot less, so we’ll get to use the course for the first time. I’d like to emphasise that the Race HQ is at Killylane Reservoir and not the car park which was used last year (2014).”

Online entry for the event will be available from Wednesday 4th February 2015 (7pm). Proceeds from this event fund the free NiRunning website. Full details of the event can be found at
