Take the Bog2Beach Adventure Challenge

bog2beachThis year’s Bog2beach Adventure Challenge will take place on 17th May 2014. On foot and bicycle it traverses the diverse and beautiful landscape of North Kerry.

Starting at 10am on the outskirts of the heritage town of Listowel, you will run through the rough terrain of Derra bog before switching to your bike for a cycle up the highest peak in North Kerry, Cnoc an Oir which commands spectacular views of Kerry, Clare and Limerick.

From there you will descend onto the coast road and into the scenic seaside resort of Ballybunion and dismount for the beach run with the Atlantic at your side.

Remounting your bike you will then cycle to Listowel where a run round the outskirts of town awaits you, ending in the picturesque town park where food and refreshment await you.

This is one of the most original Adventure Races in the country and you will not be disappointed. There is an advanced route of 69kms, and for beginners bog2beach also have designed a less strenuous 55km route. For those of you who might find our routes too demanding you can also enter in teams of two.

Event Details

Bog 2 Beach Adventure Challenge – Leg One

The first leg is set in the a bog just outside Listowel. The route takes you right through the Bog of Derra where you will encounter stream running and a man made quagmire that you will have navigate. This section will be mucky!!! You have been warned!

Bog 2 Beach Adventure Challenge – Leg Two

The second leg will see you transition to your bike will you will make your way to Lisselton, from there you will make your way up along Cnoc An Óir, North Kerry’s highest peak which will give you some spectacular views of Kerry, Clare and Limerick. The route then winds its way around the coastline towards Ballybunion. On arrival at Ballybunion you will dismount your bike and make your way to the beach.

This section will take you along one of the most beautiful walks or runs you will get in Ireland and there may be a surprise awating your trek up the beach to the mouth of the Cashen! On returning from the beach you once again get on your bike and make your way back to Listowel on the main road.

Bog 2 Beach Adventure Challenge – Leg Three

The third section will see you transition again to foot where you will commence a road run around the outskirts of Listowel. The route will make its way back to the picturesque town park where you will come down to your finish in the town park.
